Clean Up Your Environmental Impact: 12 Tips To Reducing Waste

Convenience comes at a costly price, it is estimated that the average person generates between 0.5-2kg of trash per day. On a global scale this is a scary figure and one of the main reasons our planet is under stress. Some waste can of course be recycled, however the vast majority of our trash is accumulating at an alarming rate in landfill and water sources. Below are my tips and tricks for cutting down on trash.

๐ŸŒฟ Refuse: plastic bags, cutlery, straws, flyers whatever wasteful crap you donโ€™t need just say no.
๐ŸŒฟ Reuse: Give disposable packaging a second life by rinsing and reusing. Items such as take away contains, sealable food bags and plastic bags can be repurposed over and over.
๐ŸŒฟ Recycle: know your local recycling rules and drop off zones for electronic waste and soft plastics.
๐ŸŒฟBuy second hand, Op shops are good for more than just vintage sweaters.
๐ŸŒฟ Compost food scraps and organic matter.
๐ŸŒฟ Bring a bag! Shopping bags and plastic free produce bags are an amazing way to keep plastic out of landfill.
๐ŸŒฟ Phase out single use products- makeup wipes, glad wrap, paper towel and tissues all have alternatives.
๐ŸŒฟ Invest in a quality water bottle and reusable coffee cup.
๐ŸŒฟ Stop junk mail and switch to email options where possible.
๐ŸŒฟ Refill your staples and liquids at a bulk foods store. They have everything from spices to cooking oils and house hold cleaning products.
๐ŸŒฟ Switch to beauty bars rather than bottles; soap, shampoo and face wash all have alternatives that are kinder on the planet and your body.
